I’ve Never Been Called A Hero Before

Today a scary thing happened. I was driving down the Interstate with my two grandsons when suddenly as I was beside an 18-wheeler, a large white piece of metal broke off from the side of the trailer right in front of my car. No time to react-just had to drive into it.

Well, there was no way I was going to pull over onto the shoulder of I20 with my grandsons in the car, so I took the first exit and found a place to pull over. We got out and checked the car. Not only was the grill a mess, but it was leaking fluid.

To make a long story and day shorter, the car had to be towed. The boys’ dad came and took them home.

When I told the tow truck driver what happened, he said that I was a hero for reacting as I did. He said he had been called to many terrible accidents where the driver had panicked and taken their hands off the wheel.

I had been strong for my boys while they were with me, but when he said that I felt tearful and shaky. I thought of all the things that could have happened: the metal plate hitting the windshield, airbags deploying, losing control of the car.

No, I am not the hero. God is. I know He was watching over us today. Thank you, Lord!
