I’ve Never Been Called A Hero Before

Today a scary thing happened. I was driving down the Interstate with my two grandsons when suddenly as I was beside an 18-wheeler, a large white piece of metal broke off from the side of the trailer right in front of my car. No time to react-just had to drive into it.  Well, there was no way I was going to pull over onto the shoulder of I20 with my grandsons in the car, so I took the first exit and found a place to pull over. We got out and checked the car. Not only was the grill a … Continue reading I’ve Never Been Called A Hero Before

Time Flies

I think we are all still trying to take it in-another generation in our family has graduated from high school. My sister’s beautiful, smart, and always smiling granddaughter graduated Friday night. She has wonderful plans for her future:  college to get a nursing degree. We are all so proud of her.  I think as we watched the Senior class of 2017 graduate and state their plans for the future, we all wished them the best and wished for their dreams to come true. … Continue reading Time Flies

Memorial Day

For some this is just a day off from work or school, but I think for most it truly is a day of remembrance and thankfulness. I’m sure that most of us have friends or family who have served or are presently serving in the military. My father, uncles, and father-in-law fought in World War II. My brother-in-law was in the Air Force in Vietnam. My cousins’ son and grandsons serve today at home and overseas.  To each and everyone of them we owe a debt of gratitude and remembrance, for without their willingness to serve what would our lives … Continue reading Memorial Day

He’s Just Old

Disclaimer: I did not vote for Trump and I do not like him. However, I do have respect for the office of President of the United States.  My grandfather used to say this after he retired: I don’t have to worry about what I do or say because people just say, “He’s old.”  Back then I thought it was a cutesy saying. No longer do I think so, especially since we have the oldest (70) President that’s ever been inaugurated.  In an earlier blog, called News Flash!, I wrote this quote from http://www.p2016.org “Age is a fair topic for discussion, … Continue reading He’s Just Old

A Little Fun

I was reading a little book, called 14 Day Brain Workout. One day suggested writing Haiku. It is a way to challenge yourself to think differently and creatively. Well, everyone including seniors of the world needs to be challenged mentally. So as a senior I’ve challenged myself to write a few haiku (an ancient Japanese form of poetry that makes use of images that are seasonal and sensory in nature). I didn’t always follow the exact form.  Here’s my feeble attempt: 1 Another year comes here  Hoping, wishing for goodness  Sunshine, sparkles, joy.  2.  Each day comes quickly The sun … Continue reading A Little Fun

An Amazing Trip

I have finally made a trip to South America. My wonderful friend and travel buddy, Sue, and I are on the way home from a fabulous trip to Peru and Bolivia. Our main purpose was to see Machu Picchu, but we had the opportunity to see many Inca sights and pre-Inca sites. We got a great view into the ancient cultures of those who lived in the Andes Mountains and insight in today’s Andean cultures. I was a little nervous about the trip because it was not like most of my trips. We would be up in the … Continue reading An Amazing Trip

Goodbye to Another Aunt

My Aunt Lois passed away recently. She was in perfect health and she was 91. We were always amazed when we saw her because she never seemed to change-she never seemed to age. She never stopped working. She was never in the hospital until recently. Just a couple of weeks before she died, she was at the reunion and enjoying her time wth everyone there. (I wished I had been there to see her one last time.) Everyone remarked how wonderful she looked. Then a week after the reunion, she had a stroke. As I was reading today, I came … Continue reading Goodbye to Another Aunt

Family Togetherness

I am very fortunate because I have a wonderful family. We all get along and we have fun together. I occasionally hear of families that don’t get along. How sad! My grandmother taught me the importance of family. She had a large family-13 brothers and sisters. They always made sure they kept up with one another even though they were scattered and even though they didn’t have the technology we have today. They wrote each other and shared letters. They had family reunions. All of her grandchildren (my cousins) try to get together each year for a cousins reunion. It’s … Continue reading Family Togetherness

Words

There is so much in my head. I hope my post makes sense.  I have lived 71 years. I have seen a lot, heard a lot, and felt a lot. I am fortunate, I know, because I live in America, yes, and Texas. I know in many ways I’ve led a sheltered life and I don’t know the pains that others suffer.  I was born at the end of World War II, in a world that wanted to begin again and make things better. I have lived though the Cold War and being afraid of Communists and atomic bombs destroying … Continue reading Words

Another Year

How quickly the year went by. Now I’m 71 and still ticking. I’ve celebrated my birthday twice-once on each cruise ship. That was fun! I’ve been on an amazing trip with my wonderful friend Sue-a month in Europe! We started May 25 and finished on June 25. We cruised the Baltic Sea and then the Adriatic Sea. We have traveled by airplane, ship, boat, bus, taxi, and train. Sometimes we had to drag luggage through city streets and through airport, ship, and train terminals. Yes, I was able to do it; although I was trailing quite a pace back from … Continue reading Another Year
