Miss Fit

I meet a lot of people who are wonderful inspiration, especially those in the 70 and beyond group. I met a great woman through volunteering as a Master Wellness Volunteer. Marie calls herself Miss Fit, which is her clown personna. She became a certified clown, after graduating from clown school. Her latest volunteer program is called Clowning with Food. She dresses up, tells jokes, inspires, shares recipes, and gives out samples. Of the many things I admire about Marie is her attitude. She is always smiling, always cheerful, always busy with volunteer efforts, always positive, and always coming up with … Continue reading Miss Fit

A Little Fun

Enough seriousness! I ran across this while cleaning out. The Bathtub Test During a visit to the doctor, I asked him, “How do you determine whether or not an older person should be put in an old-age home?” “Well,” he said, “we fill up a bathtub, then we offer a teaspoon, a teacup, and a bucket to the person to empty the bathtub.” “Oh, I understand,” I said.  “A normal person would use the bucket because it is bigger than the spoon or the teacup.” “No” he said. “A normal person would pull the plug. Do you want a bed … Continue reading A Little Fun

A Time of Sorrow

After the horrible bombings in Brussels, I was listening to the news. I felt such deep sadness as I heard the voices of those, who didn’t know where their loved ones were. They were pleading for news of their whereabouts. How awful not to know. I said a prayer for them and for all others who are suffering.  As I thought about these terrible times for families and friends of the victims, I thought of families that are ripped apart by foolish things, such as slights and hurt feelings. What if one minute your family members were all alive and … Continue reading A Time of Sorrow

My Travel Friend

My travel friend is a long way from being 70, but she is an inspiration to others that are 70 and beyond. She gets all her travel groups together and watches over each one in the group like a Mother Hen.  She is always full of ideas, full of excitement, and full of adventure. She’s always smiling and always seeing the good in others. She is super friendly and constantly making new friends. Above all she’s a very faithful Christian.  She is a constant inspiration to me and an example of how life should be approached. Because of her, I am … Continue reading My Travel Friend

News Flash!

So being 70 is “over the hill”! Have you looked at the age of some who are running for president. I hadn’t, but this morning I saw a news article saying that Bernie Sanders is 74 and he is releasing his health records to show that he is in good health. I decided to look into the ages of the other presidential candidates. I found the information at http://www.p2016.org Bernie Sanders is 74. Donald Trump is 70. Hillary Clinton is 69 and will be in her 70’s while in office if elected. They are all leading contenders. Also, Ronald Reagan … Continue reading News Flash!

Lucky To Have Teeth

It’s happened before and it’ll probably happen again. A tooth broke when I was eating lunch.  Back I went to the dentist just after getting my teeth cleaned. As I was talking to the dental assistant about my unfortunate luck, she came back with a comment that I was lucky to have any teeth at my age. Not again! Granted that my grandparents had false teeth at my age and George Washington supposedly had wooden teeth, things have changed. Good dental check ups, dental floss, crowns, etc. help us keep our teeth in our “old” age.  Please don’t emphasize it. I know … Continue reading Lucky To Have Teeth

Happy New Year

Another one! Each one remains a mystery to a certain extent for no one can be sure of what lies ahead.  We can make resolutions and we can make plans, but we cannot not be sure of what challenges we will face. We can only hope that our faith will remain strong for whatever lies ahead. As we age, we hope for good health, physically and mentally. Each year we worry a little about it, but we can resolve to not let our fears overcome us.   2015 was a very good year in so many ways, but it also … Continue reading Happy New Year

Holiday Sadness and Memories

I’ve been meaning to write about this for a while and tonight seemed most appropriate as a family member passed today. It is not an easy thing to write about.  At Thanksgiving, I asked a lady how she was celebrating.  She said they weren’t sure because holidays were too sad. She and her husband had lost their teenage son and it was still too difficult to celebrate without him. My heart was full of sadness for her. I know with time the pain will lessen, but I also know it will never go away. My sister suffered the same sadness … Continue reading Holiday Sadness and Memories

Dedicated to My Aunt

Today my lovely aunt passed away. She was in her 90’s. I have wonderful memories of her. My favorite was a time when I was visiting the family. I was a child and I always loved my visits. This time I was there on my birthday. She surprised me by buying a cake and taking my cousins and me to a park to celebrate my birthday. I really felt special that day. Another special memory occurred when I was grown. Mother passed away right before Mother’s Day. It was a difficult time, but on Mother’s Day I received the sweetest … Continue reading Dedicated to My Aunt
