How quickly the years go by. I know we all say that and time does seem to speed up as we age. The other day I was listening to an eighty-six year old woman talking about her life. She was asked, “ What advice do you give for enjoying life?” Her answer really struck home: “ Stop wishing your life away!” What did she mean by that?
I do remember being guilty of this when I was younger. Depending on my age, I would think thoughts such as these: How long until my birthday, Christmas, etc? I can’t wait until I’m an adult. When will the weekend, summer, holidays get here? I can’t wait until payday, until the car or house is paid off. I can’t wait until I retire.
One day I realized that I was wishing my life away. Well, I’m 79 years old and too old for that kind of thinking.
Each day is a gift. Remember the book THE PRECIOUS PRESENT by Spencer Johnson.
Too quickly the kids grow up and the grandkids grow up. Before you know it, your hair is gray, winkles pop up, and your body is stiffer. I can’t change that, but I can change my way of thinking.
This year I am embracing my 70’s. This is my last year to be 70 something. Each day will be a gift. Each day I have an opportunity to be with my family and to be able to go places and do things and learn new things and embrace change. Opportunities to enjoy life are there if we look for them and I hope to continue finding them. Bring on the good times!!
Here’s a quote I like. No one seems to know exactly who said it first, but it seems a lot of folks have said it.
“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, and today is a gift—that’s why they call it the present.”
