An Unexpected Weekend

I wasn’t going to write about this, but I decided someone might benefit from my experience.

Saturday morning I woke up with a stabbing pain in the left side of my chest. Of course , it scared me a little-well, maybe a lot. There were some prayers said. I tried to ignore it, but it wouldn’t go away and I couldn’t go back to sleep. And, of course, I looked it up on WebMd, where everything said go immediately to the hospital. Finally, I told my husband and he said, yes, we are going there. So, off we went.

I stayed in the emergency room all morning, hooked up to all kinds of machines. I looked like a computer with wires coming off me everywhere. After multitudes of questions, it was determined that I didn’t have heart problems (thank the Lord). However, my EKG had changed from previous ones, so the doctor wanted me to stay overnight in the hospital for observation.

Well, I had wanted to see the new Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in Waxahachie, and I did. I must say it is very nice and the hospital staff is wonderful and very friendly.

I felt weird taking up the staff’s time and a hospital room when I didn’t feel sick any more. I chatted with the nurses and other personnel. I walked up and down the halls. The downsides were having blood drawn every few hours, wearing cables and a monitor, and getting a shot in my stomach.

Finally, I got to go home.

Then I started to feel stupid for going to the emergency room when I obviously had nothing wrong with me. But I began to realize that now I don’t have to worry about my heart. It’s better to not take a chance. I would have always worried about it. It’s good to know that I have a healthy heart and I feel blessed that I’m ok.

Bottom line, don’t put off going to the doctor or emergency room if you have pain in your chest. It might be one of the best things you ever did.
